During the heat of the summer months, try to keep your thermostat at a standard of 78 degrees. Try investing in alternative cooling methods such as free standing fans or ceiling fans.

Use the microwave for cooking as opposed to the oven. For example, a potato baked in the microwave will cost you pennies on the dollar as opposed to the oven. Or during the spring and summer enjoy the warmth of the sun as you barbecue. This will prevent the house from heating up from the oven.

Keep your refrigerator organized to maximize efficiency. If you keep the freezer full and reduce the space between the items thus provide an even cooling through out the freezer space. Also be sure to vacuum the condenser coils on your refrigerator at least once a month to optimize your operating standards.

Avoid running the washing machine with hot water to conserve energy and lower your expenses.

Do not over dry your clothes. This is a waste of electricity!

Set your dishwasher to air dry instead of a heated dry to save energy.

Whether you are washing dishes or clothes, only do full loads!

Turn the computer and other small appliances off when you are not using them.

Consider investing in a high efficiency heating and cooling system. Your initial commitment will pay for itself in the long run. Ask your comfort specialist at Arts Service Group about the many options we have available.

Be sure to check for air leaks around the windows and door frames. These should be properly sealed to ensure air is not escaping through cracks which can be avoided.

Consider insulating your water heater with a thermal blanket, especially if it is in the attic.
